CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
|
Catholic
Schools Week, which took place
from January 31st to February
5th, celebrated all that
Catholic schools bring to the
communities they serve. We are
very blessed to have an
excellent school at St. Bede,
with students from pre-school
through eighth grade. The week
began with Mass at Church and an
Open House in our Faith
Formation Center, and concluded
with a Pep Rally in our school's
gym. This week highlighted how
much there is to be proud of
with our school! |

twelve performances highlighted
our first ever talent show at
St. Bede.
A good time was had by all! |

Our
Lenten outreach this year is
Heifer International, which
invites us to focus our
almsgiving, fasting and prayer
for those in need throughout the
world.
Fridays during Lent have
always been special at St.
Bede, and include the
following opportunities for
prayer and fasting:
·
Soup Dinners - all
are invited to participate
in simple soup and bread
suppers on February 19th,
March 5th, 12th, and 19th.
These have gained in
popularity over the years
and give us a concrete time
and place to embrace the
discipline of fasting during
Lent.
· Knights of
Columbus Fish Fry's
are offered on February 26th
and March 26th and provide
good food and fellowship
with one another.
· The Stations of
the Cross and Benediction
are offered each Friday
evening of Lent at 7:00 and
help us to focus our prayer
on the tremendous sacrifice
of Christ in his passion and
death. What better response
can we offer than gratitude?
· Our teens will
also offer the "Living
Stations of the Cross"
on March 19th. This is a
beautiful and meaningful
enactment of the Stations as
interpreted by young people
of our parish.
· NEW THIS YEAR -
as a response to the
"Catholics Come Home"
initiative, St. Bede will be
joining other parishes
throughout the Archdiocese
of Chicago in hosting a five
week series called
"HOMECOMING: Catholics
Renewing Their Faith." This
series will be offered in
Church the first five
Fridays of Lent at 7:45 pm,
following the Stations of
the Cross at 7:00 pm.
St.
Bede School students
gather to celebrate
the Burning of the
Palms. The ashes
created were used
for Ash Wednesday.
The Sacrament of
Reconciliation
is offered each Saturday
throughout the year from
4:00 until 4:30 pm and
during Lent there will be a
communal Reconciliation
Prayer Service on Tuesday,
March 23rd at 7:00 pm. In
the penitential season of
Lent, it is especially
appropriate to approach the
Lord in a spirit of
accountability and seek
healing and celebrate the
forgiveness for our sins.
Eucharistic
Adoration takes
place on the second Tuesday
of each month. During Lent
that date will be March 9th.
Following morning Mass at
7:00 am, the Church will be
kept open and the Eucharist
exposed so that all who
would like to pray before
the Blessed Sacrament will
have the opportunity to do
so. The day will conclude
with the praying of the
Rosary at 7:00 pm.
